THERE IS ROOM HEADER.jpg

Some say the degree gets you in the door and the rest is up to you. Being the first college graduate in my family, I didn't understand that statement. But 20+ years of work experience and a whole lot of life experience brings wisdom. My first job as a high school business teacher was the only job I had where my degree qualified me. The six careers after that only came because I had a desire for more, I was determined to believe what God said about me and kick fear and shame in the mouth, and I truly love people.

I have always been a competitor and sometimes that has not been to my benefit. I'm learning that a competitive nature is good, as long as you are using it to be a better you. Competing not to lose, or believing that there is only room for first place, will keep you from a joyful and peaceful life. I can be more honest about those learnings today and sharing these stories is what has connected me to so many wonderful people that I would have never known otherwise.

So what does all this amount to after great jobs in education, government, private business and the non-profit world ... After faith, family, children, divorce and a few pets? It means I will only work on things that are making a difference. I refuse to play the victim, I speak from a place of hope, and I don't spend energy on "check the box" activities. I am aware of my strengths and weaknesses. I strive to be just good enough in my weaknesses so that I can spend more time maximizing my potential and walk in my purpose. Personally and selfishly, this is why I believe so deeply in diversity. Surrounding yourself with friends and work teams with complimenting abilities and skills always produces better results.

Hence, "There Is Room". There is room to grow, learn, and share. There is room for diversity. There is room to improve margin. There is room to love more. There is room to listen and to speak. There Is room to get to know the customer on a deeper level. There is room at the dinner table, in the board room and on the stage. There Is Room.

Even though Paw Paw Pat had little money, his garden always made ROOM at the dinner table for guests.
